Herringbone LVT Bedroom Floor

A two-day bedroom floor. The room had been cleared down to a flat but tired subfloor, and the customer wanted a herringbone pattern in a grey wood-effect LVT to match the laminate already running through the hall.

The challenge

Herringbone is unforgiving. Every plank is cut at 90 degrees to its neighbour, so the layout has to be set out from a true centre line or the pattern drifts visibly by the time it reaches the walls. The second thing is the threshold: the new floor had to meet the existing hall laminate at the door without a step or a gap.

What we did

Day one was preparation: subfloor checked for high and low spots, levelled where needed, primed and left to cure. Day two was the floor itself. Centre line struck off the window wall, first row laid dry to check the margins, then the full room set in herringbone with the cuts hidden along the skirting line. A matching threshold strip ties it into the hall laminate.

The result

A bedroom floor with a straight, even pattern wall to wall, and a doorway you can walk through without noticing where one floor becomes the other.

Materials

  • Grey oak-effect luxury vinyl tile, herringbone
  • Levelled and primed subfloor
  • Matching threshold strip to the hall
