Doors, Skirting & Internal Finishing in Motherwell and Lanarkshire — Surma Joinery

What's included

  • Internal door hanging — sizing, hinging, latches, handle furniture
  • Skirting and architrave supply, cutting, scribing, mitring
  • Custom profiles where stock will not match an existing house
  • Box skirting, panelling, half-height boards, picture rails
  • Decorative mouldings, ceiling roses, alcove finishing
  • Wall cladding (timber, vertical, horizontal, slat, painted or oiled)

Second-fix is the work that decides how the room feels even after the painters have left. Skirting scribed to a wavy wall rather than butted-and-filled. Architraves mitred properly. Doors hung so they sit fair in the frame without that millimetre drag you can hear three winters later.

We do it for new builds where the developer first-fix has been rushed, for renovations where everything is being touched, and for older houses where one room is being brought up to the standard of the others. Always to the room you have, never with off-the-shelf shortcuts where the room needs a profile match.

Our process

  1. 01

    Walk-through

We come round with samples, look at what you already have, decide what to match and what to replace. Often it is cheaper to keep doors and renew skirting than the other way round.

  2. 02

    Profile and quote

We work out what stock can be ordered and what needs profiling custom. The quote breaks out materials and fit separately so you can see where the money is going.

  3. 03

    Fit

Doors hung, skirting and architraves scribed and mitred, mouldings beaded in. Joins are scribed, not butted and filled.

What customers say about our doors, skirting work

  • Rafal is an exceptional joiner — a true perfectionist when it comes to measurements and finishing. He worked in a very professional manner throughout the job and was always happy to explain his approach. While doing the paneling and media wall, he recommended several practical and well-thought-out options that really improved the final result. The media wall in particular has already been commended by few people. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rafal to anyone looking for high-quality joinery work.

  • This week I had the pleasure of having Surma Joinery come into our home to fit two new sliding wardrobe doors in both our bedroom and spare bedroom. The work was completed over two days, and from start to finish the service was excellent. They were quick to come out and provide a quote, and just as swift getting the work booked in and completed. Brilliant company — professional, efficient, and the quality of work is fantastic. Highly recommend!

  • I would highly recommend Rafal. I cannot put into words how amazing his work was — to tell you the truth I had contacted around 40 joiners to help develop my nursery's outdoor garden in building an outdoor cosy reading area for our children to relax and enjoy stories, songs and other learning experiences. The only person that actually did what they said was Rafal, without any hesitation and made it a priority not a problem. Rafal was very professional and incredibly kind, genuinely caring. Without any payment he did the job from start to finish with gratitude and appreciation, taking pride in his work to help our children and families within our local community. We can now provide an outdoor shelter space for our children to learn and grow. If you want someone you can trust, who's reliable, honest, hard working and incredibly talented, then Rafal is the person you need.

Frequently asked

Can you match my existing skirting and architrave?
Yes. For stock profiles we buy in. For older houses with bespoke profiles we router a match — the difference is in the detail and is well worth it for the finish.
How long does it take to fit a houseful of skirting?
Three to five days for a typical 3-bed semi, depending on how much is straight-runs vs. lots of scribed corners. Painting and decorating is normally a separate visit.
Should I order doors before you visit?
No, please don't. Door sizes are not standard — we measure the openings and order to fit. A door that nearly fits costs more in adjustment time than the door itself.
Do you fit cladding indoors?
Yes — timber feature walls, vertical slat panels, half-height tongue-and-groove. Pre-finished or paint-ready. Adds character to a room for less than most fitted joinery.
