A full EWI job done over three winter weeks. The wall went from bare brick to fully insulated, rendered, and finished. Heat that used to escape through the wall now stays inside the house.
The challenge
The job started in November. EWI is unforgiving in cold weather — the adhesive and the render both need dry temperatures above about 5°C to cure properly. We staged the install around the forecast rather than pushing through, which added a week to the programme but meant no failures in the finish.
The other complication: every window sill, every downpipe and every gas pipe bracket needed extending by 90mm to come back out flush with the new wall surface. Easy to underestimate, expensive to do badly.
What we did
90mm boards mechanically fixed glue-and-stud onto the existing wall, reinforcing mesh and base coat over the top, then a 1.5mm acrylic render in the colour the client chose. Sills extended, downspouts adjusted, gas pipe brackets reset, lighting blocks brought forward. Foundation plinth plastered and painted to match.
The result
A house that looks finished from the outside and stays noticeably warmer inside. EWI is the single biggest fabric improvement most homes can make, and on this property it added up to a major drop in heating use.
