Part of a much larger Edinburgh hotel-to-residential conversion. The joinery package covered new box skirting and pine cladding across the converted rooms — the work that takes a stripped-back interior and starts to feel like a home again.
The challenge
Hotel rooms generally get the cheapest possible second-fix. By the time we arrived, the walls were freshly plastered and the brief was to lift the visual quality of every common area enough to read as residential.
What we did
Deep box skirting profile fitted throughout, mitred and scribed at every corner rather than butted and caulked. Pine cladding on selected feature walls, set out so the boards landed evenly at the ceiling and the floor without an awkward part-board at the top.
The result
The job hardly looks like a joinery job at all, which is the point. The eye catches the rooms feeling generous, then the materials. Two pieces of joinery doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Materials
